Cesar Chavez
"We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget progress and prosperity for our community...our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and our own." -Cesar Chavez

My Social Justice Hero: Cesar Chavez
Cesar Chavez once said “The fight is never about grapes and lettuce. It is about people.” A social justice hero is a person who fights for what he/she believes in. Cesar Estrada Chavez was born in Yuma, Arizona on March 31, 1927. Chavez was an activist until he was 66 years old which was when he passed away. Cesar died in San Louis, Arizona on April 23, 1993. My social Justice hero, Cesar Chavez, deserves a day that we can celebrate the great things he did. He deserves his own day because he was determined, helpful, and brave.
First of all, Cesar Chavez was a very determined person. Chavez was determined person he didn’t stop until he got what he requested. For example, Chavez didn’t give up on until they improved working conditions for farmworkers. And that’s why Cesar Chavez was strong on making firm decisions.
In addition, Cesar Chavez was a really helpful person. Chavez helped farmworkers by finding the Untied Farmworkers association (UFA). And thanks to him finding the United Farmworkers Association, They (the UFA) used non-violent ways to help change labor laws, giving more rights to farmworkers. That’s why Cesar Chavez was always ready to give someone his help on anything, in this case helping farmers with their problems.
Finally, Chavez was a brave human being. Cesar Chavez was brave enough to go to the army at the age of 17 just to get experience for what was going to await him when he got out and returned to civilian life. Also Chavez was brave to fight for what he believed in and for what he though was right. No matter what he had to go through. And those are the reasons to why Chavez is a brave human being.
All in all, Chavez was a really determined, helpful and brave human being, and that he should have a national holiday. Even though not a lot of people consider him a hero because he probably wasn’t a president or politician, he helped out people that needed it and that’s all that really maters.
