Social Justice Hero: Ida B. Wells
Ida B. Wells once said “If this work can contribute in any way toward proving this, and at the same time arouse the conscience of the American people to demand for justice to every citizen, and punishment by laws for the lawless, I shall feel I did my race a service.” There are many social justice heroes, a social justice hero is someone with all types of great qualities and tries to contribute or help their society in any way they can. Ida B. Wells was a big part of history especially in the lynching department. I know she needs or deserves a national holiday because she was a determined, brave, and ambitious person.
First of all, Ida B. Wells was really determined . She was determined because she published her statistics about lynching for the African American newspaper to get her words out. Also Wells organized a movement for civil rights (especially for women). But those were only some reasons to show how determined she was.
Secondly Ida was very brave. One way she was because she kept writing even when people threatened her life (she also bought a pistol). Another thing was a train conductor asked her to get off her seat she refused and they dragged her out the train. So that’s why she was very brave.
Lastly, Ida B. Wells was definitely an ambitious person. Ms. Wells did many years of compaining against lynching. Plus without Ida Wells it would have been a slower start to improvements for African Americans in America. That’s explaining how ambitious she was.
So therefore, that is why I believe that Ida B. Wells is deserving for a national holiday for her wonderful characteristics.
