Alice Paul
"I never doubted that equal rights was the right direction. Most reforms, most problems are complicated. But to me there is nothing complicated about ordinary equality." -Alice Paul

Alice Paul Deserves a Day
Alice Paul once said to President Wilson, “Mr. President how long must women wait to get their liberty? Let us have the rights we deserve.” A social justice hero is someone who fights for what they believe in, help others and do what is right. My social justice hero, Alice Paul, was a women’s right activist and an American suffragist from Mount Laurel Township. Alice Paul deserves a national holiday because she was a very daring, determined, and fearless social justice hero and person.
First of all, Alice Paul was very daring. She was daring because she would put together parades and marches to distract from President Wilson’s inauguration. Also, Alice Paul disguised herself as a cleaning lady and when the Prime Minister began his speech, she began breaking glass and yelled “Votes for women!” to draw attention to her cause, Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU). Alice Paul was very bold, courageous, and risk taker which makes her a daring social justice hero.
Second of all, Alice Paul is very determined. She’s determined because when the women in her group didn’t support her, she left them and started her own group, The National Women’s Party (NWP) which soon came to become The Congressional Union (CU). Also because she continuously did hunger strikes, demonstrations and protests, and she finally won her battle. My social justice hero didn’t give up and always tried to find a good solution that would allow her to keep supporting her cause, The Congressional Union, which makes her determined.
Finally, Alice Paul is fearless. She’s fearless because even after the U.S. entered World War 1, she and The Congressional Union kept doing protests. Also because she didn’t care and wasn’t scared about what would happen to her, she kept protesting and got arrested, imprisoned, and kept on striking. A fearless person is someone who is not afraid of the consequences of their actions and has no fear, so my social justice hero, Alice Paul, is fearless.
Due to her being such a determined, daring, and fearless person, Alice Paul deserves a national holiday. My social justice hero always took risks, and didn’t care for the consequences, because she was doing what was right.
