A Real Social Justice Hero
“Champions keep playing until they get it right.” Did you know that encouraging quote was written by an amazing social justice hero, by the name of Billie Jean King. A social justice hero is someone that could be named as being determined, brave, and having equality. My social justice hero is Billie Jean King. She was an amazing person that fought for what she knew was right. My social justice hero deserves a holiday for many reasons. I believe this because she was brave, determined, and has equality. That’s what I believe a social justice hero should be.
First off, Billie Jean King was many things, but if I had to choose one word to describe her, I would choose equal. I would say that Billie Jean King was “equal” because she thought men and women were all the same, and no one was better then the other. She stood up for people that went by the title of “LGBT” which stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender because she thought they weren’t being judged fairly, like everybody else. Billie Jean King was a very equal person and to me, that’s what a real social justice hero is like.
Another word you could describe Billie Jean King as would be brave. She didn’t care about other peoples opinions. She knew that what she believed in was right and she proved that to people by challenging a man to a tennis match because she believed that men and women were all equal and by challenging him to that match, she proved that she was brave. This also supports my first theory of her equality. She was never shy, or feared the enemy, she wouldn’t let anybody get in her way, and she stood up for herself. After all, she was extremely brave about everything she did.
Finally, after saying that Billie Jean has equality and that she’s brave, there’s one more word that I would use to describe her, and that word is determined. She never gave up in what she believed in was right, she always kept fighting to show what was right. She knew what she was talking about, and that makes she determined. She was determined to get her point across to the rest of the world. She never stopped, just kept going. Billie Jean King was absolutely determined to show everyone what she thought was right.
In the end, Billie Jean King was an amazing person that knew she was right, and fought to let people know that. She had equality. She was brave. Last but not least, she was determined. If it was my choice, Billie Jean King would definitely be a social justice hero. She was such an outstanding person, that she was elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987. It takes a real social justice hero to get into that. That’s why I believe Billie Jean King, most definitely deserves to be named as a social justice hero.
